Joseph Pilates
Pilates is a total body conditioning system including precise and specialised exercises that challenge you physically and mentally.

Exercises work to rebalance the body, restoring it to its correct alignment, improving posture, muscle tone and length and working to restore normal natural movement.

A whole range of people benefit from pilates, ranging from those suffering with postural difficulties, muscle dysfunctions (e.g. back pain) to trained sports professionals e.g. footballers, dancers, tennis players and golf players.

The crucial feature of Pilates, in comparison with some other techniques is that it focuses on the deep postural muscles of the body ensuring that we work our bodies inside and out – the ‘girdle of strength’.  The exercises can be applied to our day to day lives, ensuring true benefits constantly in our bodies.

Developed in the 1920’s by Joseph Pilates, the Pilates method has been perfected over the past 90 years. The consistent success rates in helping to relieve back pain and rebalance the body has brought Pilates to the attention of many medical specialists including physiotherapists, osteopaths, GPs, surgeons and back specialists.
